Updated: Fire on Second Avenue

Per EV Grieve reader evilsugar25~ from last night:

Fire at 122 Second Ave. between Seventh Street and St. Marks. Stomp theater (the Orpheum) evacuated, broken glass in the front windows of the Ukrainian Sports Club at122 ... at least eight fire trucks and cops galore. Crowds on the street. A different kind of NYC excitement.

EV Grieve reader RatherBeBiking took these shots a little bit later... (via his Flickr account)

Don't know the extent of the damage just yet... Anyone else have information?

[Updated] EV Grieve reader Fairfax Wright shared more photos:

  1. I live across the street and saw most of the action. (while simultaneously trying to watch the NBA finals) Never saw any flames, only some smoke coming out of the 4th floor once the FD had busted out all the windows. I could see into the top floor and saw no damage or smoke. They brought the hose in but not sure if it was used.

  7. 1) me & my sis are probably inside virage right there that photo. can i take a sec to say i'm glad virage is still around and thriving?

    2) my ex lives in our ex apt at 328 e 9th (between 1&2) and he said, "The FDNY stormed through this building last night sometime after midnight. Why, I don't know. I heard one of them in the hallway say "Is this 328?" You mean they buzzed and banged on the doors, ran up the stairs and through the back and didn't know where they were?" not if the incidents were related or not...
