Start the Evolution again!: Surprisingly, flair bar fails to ignite on Second Avenue

Oh boy. Faithful readers of this space many may know that we've been following the saga of this space on Second Avenue and Fourth Street through various incarnations/awnings...2x4, Ambiance, Evolution..

And now! Not really a surprise, but... Evolution has given way to a new UK-style pub....

Thanks to EV grieve reader Tad for these above photos....

Meanwhile, please bow your heads for a last look at Evolution.... from a video that we shot in January...

"Yes, that's very nice Young Flanagan... but I just wanted a fucking bottle of Bud."

Previously on EV Grieve:
At Evolution Lounge: Vodka martini, flipped, not stirred...

  1. I wonder where the owners of this place get so much money to blow since it's pretty obvious every iteration of this bar loses money.

This new idea might not work but I'm sure it'll do better than the gimmicky bar Evolution was.

  2. Maybe they can resurrect the old British telephone booths from the Telephone Bar........

  4. This bar can be seen at the end of the 1973 animated Ralph Bakshi film "Heavy Traffic" when the cartoon characters become real people -- the female lead is seen tossing a garbage can through the doorway of the Second Avenue entrance.

This was a looong time ago, when New York City was REALLY New York City....

  5. I'm looking forward to it. Ever since A Salt & Battery left the EV years ago, you have to go all the way over the Greenwich for proper English F&C, B&M, etc. Will welcome this, hopefully its good. You have to chuckle that its named after the famous pub on Eastenders too!

  6. If done right, as Kurtis describes above, this would be welcome. Something along the lines of Chipshop, A Salt & Battery, or Tea & Sympathy would be good in the EV. Hopefully it'll be more "eatery" than "pub"...

  7. Randy should have kept the pool table.
