Ave. A Mini Market abruptly closes

I swear the place was open Sunday morning... was making notes of what stores were open... and then, yesterday, the place was empty... Pages from Sunday's papers were hanging in the windows...

Meanwhile, @Taylor_Lorenz snapped this shot yesterday...

Anyone know what happened here?

  1. I went by on Saturday to grab pre-storm smokes and they were already closed and half-gutted. I hear they're doing renovations.

  2. Thanks, Scott. Not sure why I thought they were open Sunday. Probably just an Irene Hype Hangover.

  3. I believe it was closed on Sunday morning after the storm. I poked my head in to see if I could get a cheap cup of coffee around 10am but it looked just like that last photo - stripped bare.

  6. This bodega is on the block next to me but I never felt a kinship with the dudes, not like Poppy's for instance. Shame though the records/books in front of this place are always great.

  7. agreed they were not the friendliest types. nothing specific to complain about and a good place to grab a quick pack of smokes. and at least they aren't extortionate like the sheen brothers. those guys are dreaming with their prices.

  8. I was walking past and overheard someone saying that their lease was up and the renewal was too expensive.

  9. these guys could be gruff, but good at heart. family run spot for over 15 years. told me the landlord wanted to raise the rent, but they were gonna renovate and reopen after about 10 days. wishful thinking? we'll see. cheapest spot for beer for sure!

  10. The guys in here were always nice to me and my girls - never "unfriendly" nor "gruff." I'd take them over a 7-11 any day......

  11. Cheapest spot for beer...LOL!
They once tried charging me fifteen dollars for a four pack that cost $9 at Wholefoods. This guy never smiled or bothered to make conversation. Good riddance.
