Does anyone know what this guy's deal is?
ReplyDeleteTHe shirtless man is a truly a menace. He has assaulted people and been arrested for it...He has incredible problems, emotional and psycological. PLEASE do not lionize him as an interesting unique New York figure. He will hurt you.
ReplyDeleteNo one is nominating him as citizen of the week. Well aware of his activity.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed he is getting alot more in-your-face with his begging...
ReplyDeleteHave seen this guy walk through traffic multiple times; stumble up to passerbys - rambling, touching, or worse; always drunk, often belligerent. One of the few "menaces" of the Ave A / TSP area.
ReplyDeleteI'm typing this from my nice warm apartment. Even though I haven't spoken to my father in more than a decade, I know my mom is a phone call away. My brother will always back me up and even though I drink way the fuck to much... It is socially acceptable... I have my bad days where I stay at home, I have my good days where I lay in the park... I know I complain about certain things in my life and how shitty they have been....
ReplyDeleteBut I am never stupid enough to bitch about the people that have no home, no mother to call, no brother to be backed up by, and when ever they have a bad day the fucking world sees... And worse, an addiction that is not socially acceptable...
People, the guy is in so much fucking pain, and he has no one... Sure, most likely from his own doing.... But fix your own shit up, talk to your kids more ... Blah blah blah... But serious, figure your own shit out before you try to transfer your own issues onto some one that has for gotten how to care...
I have seen this guy assault an elderly man this Summer near Juicy Lucy's, and I've seen him acting aggressive with many passersby in the last year. He's a real problem.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet, Slum Goddess thinks he's cool and claims she's in love.
Putting an aggressive headcase on a pedestal is not cool. shirt or no shirt, the dude needs to be removed from the streets for his own good and the good of the community.
Don't you think this guy has it bad enough without your righteous self-important scorn?
ReplyDeleteGimme a break, he is not going to physically assault you, that is just some bullsh*t you want to lean on in order to "eradicate" him from the neighborhood. what's the matter, you are so totally devoid of the human condition called "COMPASSION" that you can't even bear to look at this guy without wishing him gone?
That is what's truly sad.
A freezing night a few weeks ago I was walking with a friend down houston and here is a homeless person trying desperately to hold his own, not asking anyone for anything, with his belongings literally chained to a fence and just trying to stay warm/alive. All i could think of is THIS is the kind of person that the cops will expend time and energy trying to get off the street, meanwhile DOESN'T THIS GUY HAVE IT BAD ENOUGH??? Out of all the people to harass, you are going to pick THIS GUY?
Don't kick people while they're down.
It is seriously poor form, and it ultimately makes YOU look bad - not them.
compassion? how about respect and manners. a sad story about a man sitting quietly on the street homeless and freezing is one thing and deserves compassion. drunken rudeness, verbal harassment, and yes physical assault is another. neighbors deserve to be able to walk down the street without being bombarded and harassed.
ReplyDeletewe applaud your compassion. but we want peace.
glamma,
ReplyDeleteAre you actually saying that there aren't people with mental problems that are physically violent?
I admit, I have never seen this gentlemen ever assault anyone, but I have seen others been assaulted by people that have problems in the neighborhood. They need help and we need to continue to support organizations that provide such help. Ignoring their problems isn't going to do anyone any good.
OTOH, ignoring the homophobia in the community has made that problem "disappear" so maybe that will work with physical violence as well.
On a different subject, does anyone know how jewels is going?
ReplyDeleteAnon 11:20 and glamma are completely full of it. Both of their comments are stunning examples of sheer and willful ignorance masquerading as empathy.
ReplyDeleteI have personally watched this guy assault people and act like a wildman during the Summer. And yet glamma and Anon. don't care about those assaulted and harrassed, just the supposed rights of a violent mental patient.
The attitudes of glamma and Anon. are almost as bad as the aggression they excuse and ignore, and all because he's been pedestalized as some sort of sacred "victim" who's violence must be explained away. Glamma and Anon. have a seriously skewed sense of right and wrong. What about the rights of the elderly gentleman I saw being kicked and smacked in front of Juicy Lucy's this Summer. He doesn't count. And don't give me some sanctimonious crap about getting my house in order before I can condemn an aggressive menace. You folks need to get your priorities straight.
So caleo, what are you suggesting??? Wait don't tell me the great goverment run mental programs can help... Or wait the drug rehabilitation programs that he could afford... Or, wait I know... We should excuse everyone that has made decisions in this country by removing all safe guards that were once in place to assist people with mental issues and lock his ass up in jail just so we all can sleep better at night as we wont be reminded of how we truly treat the less fortunate than us...
ReplyDeleteThe only answer is to undo the regan era destruction of the metal health services and actually protect the comunity by protecting those that can't protect themselves
this guy is beyond a menance. someone is going to fuck him up bad one day for barking up the wrong tree. i just hope im there to see it.
ReplyDeleteThis guy showed up in the neighborhood about two years ago. Starting assaulting some of my homesless friends who have been around forever (like Stevens), claiming that this is his turf now. He's really unhinged and dangerous. He needs help and he shouldn't be allowed to torture those who can't defend themselves. To those who are defending him, hang out on the corner of Avenue and 7th Street for a good 6 hours and let us know how it goes. He's going to hurt someone very badly very soon. If you see him, try to stay as far away as possible. He acts like a meth head.
ReplyDeleteHe's an aggressive nuisance at best and at worst he's a dangerous threat. He's been harassing me and my girlfriend for the better part of the last 6 months after she refused to give him a cigarette on morning in August while she was waiting for the bus on Ave A and 5th street... He needs to be removed from the neighborhood ASAP! He was arrested for attempting to rape a woman this past fall - http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20121006/east-village/suspect-nabbed-for-sexual-assault-tompkins-square-park
