the reopened Bleecker St Records is kind of incredible for people who like rock and punk, its an style old school NYC store with lots of amazing single tacked up on the wall (and for sale) yes these seem pricey but are rarely available stuff....I wonder if they do record store day
ReplyDeleteI loved Bleecker St Records. I used to be a rare record collector in my youth, and loved just looking at their stuff. Wasn't sure where they had moved to.
ReplyDeleteAmazing that Starbucks would have the balls to open up on the same stretch of street as Ottomanelli, Falco, Murray's, Amy's, and almost right next door to Rocco's. Not to mention a block away from Porto Rico.
May this pass quickly.
It's like if "Olive Garden" opened a place down on Mulberry and Grand.

I'm amazed that Generation Records is still open after all these years - I think this year is their 22nd in business. Had Bleecker Street Records not reopened on West 4th Street, Generation and Rebel Rebel would've been the last record stores in Greenwich Village standing, Generation the last one with current/new artist records. I'm more amazed Rebel Rebel is still in business.

As long as Madonna has a fan, I think Rebel Rebel will be ok. Its a funny place to walk into.

ReplyDeleteI used to love Record Runner.. that had been there since I was in high school in the mid 80's.. I suppose that's gone now too :(
ReplyDeleteI consider Other Music and Generation Records the only real record stores in Manhattan left because they're the only ones which sell music by current, active underground artists.
