  5. I'm happy that these shows are able to still happen at all in our neighborhood. If you don't like it, you don't have to go. This is the stuff that makes this place great. I'd hate to live in an over sterile environment, void of the culture that made the lower east side and east village where people wanted to be.

  6. Its making fun of the Punk Island show which is a no booze, early show on Govener's Island which ends before sundown. Which I guess has moved and is now even bigger with a kickstarted thing going on...

  7. unfortunately the music is played loud enough to be heard up in maine...they need to consider the people in the park when the put on these shows... forget that the bands are terrible, the sound quality is the worst

I looked at your website. Your taste in clothing is terrible.

  9. I grew up on punk music and I like concerts in the park but there needs to be more variety. How about hip hop, classical, jazz, country and rock? Let's mix it up.

There was a free jazz concert in the Park Friday evening from 5-9. Unfortunately, I only found about it around 6 ... or I would have posted the preview info.

And The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in the Park is Aug. 24 this year.

    hey nygrump.

You probably remember when punk kind of encapsulated everything interesting happening at the time from the Contortions to the Fleshtones to ESG. Except for the Accelerators, the bands on the Puke island bill all just sound like rehashed 90's era hardcore. Just loud and stale. Personally I'd rather hear your guy with the plinky plink piano. Loud and obnoxious isn't required to be interesting, see here.

  12. By now punk is almost 40 years old, and it's been done to death. Nothing new here, nothing to see, move along.

  13. I certainly agree hardcore is just another genre now but good punk rock still sounds good and this community needs to be reminded its the end of the world. Recently I picked up this excellent little single from the Hysterics out of Portland OR, 4 women who just rage. I've seen some sets by High Teen Boogie and Rabia locally within the past couple of years that just slayed. The world is more fucked now than it was in 84, the total state control and collapsing economy more urgent than ever. I really hope these kids stay the fuck off heroin.
