Some local skateboarders are in mourning... after several attempts through the years, workers have finally filled in The Crack™ in the ballpark/skateboard area in the northwest corner of Tompkins Square Park.
Our friends at Quartersnacks have the scoop:
The Crack™ is gone. It has been filled with an effective tarlike substance that renders the inch-wide cavity obsolete.

Here's video footage from a few years back about how to navigate The Crack™ — "the Park’s longest standing obstacle."
Perhaps The Crack™ will be back again some day...

I grieve for that crack.
No amount of tar can seal a crack in the space/time continuum. Only the Doctor can do that.
Why exactly is this blog-worthy? It seems a bit silly!
@ 12:16- That my friend is hard hitting reporting. What? First day joining us?
Anonymous at 12:16, You won't think it's silly if Prisoner Zero escapes!
And with this bit of sad news, The Crack™ epidemic in the East Village is finally over.
@Anon. 2:41 and Giovanni - ha ha haaaa! Thanks for the laughs, your comments are a hoot!
Next thing you know, the super rich transients would petition CB3, the precints, the local politicians, and have The Crack™ removed all over their neighborhood and have them replaced with a glass crack. And in a few years, they'll be paying twice as much as what they're paying now to live in a neigborhood where there is a replica of The Crack™.
