SMØR Bakery photo by Vinny & O
As reported earlier this week, SMØR cafe owners Sebastian Perez and Sebastian Bangsgaard have opened SMØR Bakery ... offering a variety of bread and pastries at 437 E. 12th St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.
And this is the latest bakery to open in the East Village. Earlier this summer, Nikita Richardson checked in with a piece for The New York Times titled A Three-Stop Bakery Crawl in the East Village.
She paid visits to 2022 newcomers Librae Bakery on Cooper Square and Lady Wong on Ninth Street ... and La Cabra on Second Avenue (which opened this past Oct. 1).
You can read the piece here for more on what these businesses have to offer.
Other newish (as of May) bakeries include Bake Culture, the Taiwan-based bakery chain that sells Asian and European pastries at 22 St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.
And you can always count on the sourdough and other items at C&B on Seventh Street... the baguettes and croissants at Le Fournil on Second Avenue... the croissants at Elisa's Love Bites on Ninth Street ... and wherever else you like.
Just got the watermelon juice at SMOR cafe on 12th St. between Ave A and 1st Ave. Naturally sweet, thick and pulpy, it is almost like a watermelon shake. Delicious, refreshing and low calorie. It is just the thing for today's sweltering temps. So glad that SMOR has this on their bakery menu. This may become a weekly summer ritual for me. Yum-yum!
ReplyDeleteALSO Petit Chou on First Avenue around 13th Street, for croissants and sweets. And slightly north of us, but worth the trip, Bread Story on First Avenue around 15th Street (just north of Citibank in Stuy Town.
ReplyDeleteAgree! Their Pain au Chocolate (among many other items) is absurd!
DeleteLove this new string of bakeries in this neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThat’s not a given: when we moved to the neighborhood 12 years ago you could only get decent bread at Tarraluci and Vino. Otherwise it was a trek to the Union Square farmer’s market
ReplyDeleteThere's also Le Petit Parisien on 7th between 2nd and 3rd. Their baguettes are wonderful as are their pastries.
ReplyDeleteJ'aime Le Fournil, Second Ave at East 7 Street.
ReplyDeleteNew EV mantra: A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
ReplyDeleteIt's very Cool to have a nice selection of Bakeries in the East Village. Old school Moishe's Kosher Bakery is still missed! Even thou, I do love some baked goods at Le Fournil. We are so Lucky to have to many choices. Let's enjoy
