Potenza Centrale has closed at 38 Avenue B near Third Street after nearly three years in business.
Owner Luigi Iasilli confirmed the closure on Thursday.
He didn't offer a specific reason for closing and seemed philosophical about the decision, essentially saying it was time. He also said he's doing well.
Iasilli opened Potenza Centrale in November 2023, marking his return to Avenue B a decade after his well-liked Max restaurant closed at 51 Avenue B.
Named for the Southern Italian town where Iasilli was born and raised, Potenza Centrale specialized in square slices made with highly hydrated dough that underwent a lengthy fermentation process. The small shop also offered focaccia, housemade mozzarella and sauce, among other items.
When we first spoke with Iasilli about the project in September 2023, he described his return to Avenue B as "coming full circle."
And now that circle has come to a close...

It’s hard to stay in business if you charge $12 for a pizza and use real cheese. Cheese is expensive.
Nicest guy, great product, local unpretentious spot. Damn
I loved this place but recently the quality had taken a hit. It seemed like maybe as a result of cost-saving measures, but that’s pure speculation. So I’m not totally surprised it has closed, but it hits hard…no decent, well-priced pizza left in the area.
