Hundreds of skateboarders descended up the TF in Tompkins Square Park for the latest Harold Hunter Skate Jam.
Hunter, a charismatic local skateboarder born and raised at Campos Plaza on 13th Street, died in 2006 at age 31.
The Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF) is an NYC nonprofit that provides support, opportunity and advocacy for skateboarders.
The Jam also marked a collab drop for the DKG and the HHF Street Soldier Deck.

I remember Harold Hunter from the film "KIDS"...
I was 15 when KIDS came out and I was peripherally a part of the TSP skate scene, also hung out with a bunch of Campos Plaza people which is how I ended up in circles with Harold. I tried very hard to conceal that I was from the UES whenever we were in the park or down at the Banks.
Harold was blowing up as a local celebrity when that movie hit and yet the couple of times I hung around when he was with us, I remember him as very humble and friendly. He was older and so I didn't cross paths with him too many times. But you remember the good ones; there were certainly so many terrible people around back then.
We've lost a lot of folks from that time. It's sad. I can't believe it's been nearly 20 years since Harold passed. I remember not being very surprised when I learned of him and Justin Pierce dying. The children of the 80s and 90s in NYC coped with a lot of insanity. I still have nightmares about some things.
I hope young people in the EV now have it easier. It's good to see them happy and active.
