Cooper Craft and Kitchen restores dignity to the corner of Second Avenue and Fifth Street

At least from the outside. The plywood is down at Cooper Craft and Kitchen, here on the corner ... former home of the horrible-looking pink spaceship, Kurve.

The space will be a craft-beer-focused bar-restaurant from the team behind Dempsey's and Sláinte. With a lot of barrels inside, probably.

Sorry, but WTF is craft-beer?

Lux, I think they mean beer from Micro-Breweries. Seems to be a new buzzword. Probably priced accordingly.

Whew! That's a relief! The old stupid Kurve look was just so hideous and ridiculous as to blight the surrounding 2 blocks.

I hope they'll put up curtains. Don't like sipping craft beer in a fish bowl.

Now it looks like the Greek coffee shop that was there for around 20 years after Binibon closed.

that diner was called cooper square - they moved across the street to what had been a deli/diner and then stanley's bar, and then cooper square and now moonstruck

Quentin Crisp used to eat there daily. Seems just like yesterday.

Quite an improvement. Good understated design and suits the neighborhood better. Hope the crowd is better than the vulgar and violent drunks who frequented the sports bar that once existed there.

Walked by the other night and it looks like it could be a nice addition to the block unlike Kurve. That place would've looked cheap and gawdy in a bad suburban mall. Every time I'd walk by would feel an urge to throw something at it.

It was open tonight! That was a QUICK construction. Thankfully only ONE flat screen, so not technically a sports bar.
