"The spaces we've checked out so far in the east village are 650-800 square feet at a cost of about $4000 a month. Something like that would be doable."
There are plenty of empty storefronts here. Given those parameters, here are four spaces to consider; places that made some sense (no former restaurants with equipment to remove or far-flung side streets with little pedestrian traffic...)
St. Mark's between Avenue A and First Avenue ...
St. Mark's between Avenue A and First Avenue...
Avenue A between Fifth Street and Fourth Street...
Ninth Street between First Avenue and Avenue A...
As Ken Mac first reported at Greenwich Village Daily Photo, the current Bleecker Bob's space will become a Starbucks. Alex shared his thoughts here on Flaming Pablum.

My vote is for 9th street between 1st and A and that they consider working on a barter system.
Whats up w the old Hospital Records space? Too small? Any news there?
Hospitals Recs space is too far off the beaten path, Bleeker Bob needs to be closer to 8th St, where the action is...there are 3 empty storefronts on East 6th between 1st and 2nd. I know Boozemaster Booze wants them to be heavy drug outposts and sell more booze but it would be great if they sold something besides booze.
Avenue C needs a record store there ain't any
Those are all fine choices, can't wait to welcome them to the neighborhood.
PLEAAASE make it Ave A between 4th and 5th! Been missing Etherea ever since it closed...
Although I agree with the previous commenter that a record store is sorely missing from Ave C. I would support that!
