This is a huge problem in between Ave C&D on many streets. I've seen the crackheads running around stripping bikes, and made reports to the precinct. Also, there's a big stolen bike ring that should be brought down on 9th St. in between C&D.
catching thieves doesn't generate any revenue. why would they waste their valuable time fighting crime when they could be towing cars and motorcycles, issuing lucrative parking tickets, and ruining the lives of the economically disadvantaged with retarded, useless pot possession busts.
the ironic things about actions in this circle of life is the efficiency and astute ability at what they do. sort of like the quickness in which a crackhead can contruct a crack pipe out of almost anything. the resourcefulness involved. what im saying if that kind of ability could be directed to other things, people like this could be really productive.
I have that same Kryptoflex wire and I use it on my dahon matrix. Looking at that picture can't wait to buy myself another kryptonite lock to use instead.
What a bummer. The bike owner obviously took pride in his/her ride with the matching seat and bar tape. It's a wonder the thief didn't clip the brake cables and make off with the brakes, take the seat/seatpost, and the stem and handlebars. Perhaps that was too much to carry.
Thanks for taking a photo and caring enough to post this.

I've seen one of the crusties checking bike locks as he walks down the street. Short, rail thin, long, blond braided hair. In broad day light.
@THE NOTORIOUS L.I.B.E.R.A.T.I.O.N. You sure that's not Lady Gaga?

The only chain I've had that hasn't been clipped is the giant, heavy chain with a kryptonite lock.
Well, that sucks. If the owner of this bike needs some help I have an extra old mavic front rim the he could use.
