Reader report: Unshoveled sidewalks in front of the incoming 7-Eleven remain treacherous
Yesterday morning, we noted that the plywood walkway outside the incoming 7-Eleven on Avenue A and East 11th Street was extremely slippery... causing someone to post the above warning note...
Apparently little has changed here.
EV Grieve reader VH McKenzie notes:
"The only building on the block of 11th between A and B that DIDN'T shovel any snow from the pathway in front of their building since Friday ... the site of the incoming 7-Eleven.
"What was a slippery, treacherous sheet of ice is now, thanks to the rain, an impassable small lake. Soon to be a slippery, treacherous sheet of ice again when the temperature drops."
Walking on the other side of the street is really a good idea.

I also noticed that the sidewalk on 2nd Ave in front of St. Mark's on the Bowery wasn't shoveled either. Are church properties exempt?
7-11, its a slippery slope. In more ways than one.
Call 311.
pick up a shovel and clean it. Or better, get the NO 7-11 people to clean it up instead of chalking. That would show 7-11 what kind of neighborhood we are.
I noticed that sign yesterday and thought it was nice that someone took the time to put it up.
7-11 - DANGEROUS to the neighborhood in every possible way!
Unfortunately there are plenty of apartment buildings and businesses that do not shovel. Every single one should be ticketed. Including properties on the corners who all those small oceans of slush to form at the crosswalks.
according to the 7-11 franchise site this location does not have a owner/operator yet and is set to open May 2013...Grieve, the door is open for you, now is your chance to really change things and bless us with a east village 7/11 run by a real east villager, buy it ... haha - BL

Ahoy polloi -- I'm with you here. Especially about the corner businesses who don't make the effort to make crosswalks as slush-free as possible for pedestrians. Wouldn't you think it would be a matter of community pride -- and just plain good for business -- to make your corner as clear and accessible as possible?
sorry to say, but allot of you need to get a life. Your so called "EV" is gone and its not going to be back. I allso assume none of you were even here back in the day, so why do u realy care about a 7-11 so bad. go back to the midwest and cry from your dads farm.
Heyy, arn't yous the same dude who loves him the Solas?
With 7-11 the slush is inside the store 24/7
