So is this what James Renwick, Jr. had in mind when he designed 27 Stuyvesant St. in the 1860s?

Via Curbed, we learn that the Anglo-Italianate townhome at 27 Stuyvesant St. is back on the market for $5.25 million. (Original asking price was $6.7 million.)

It's a beautiful townhousehome — especially from the outside. And, per the listing, it was designed in 1861 by James Renwick, renowned architect responsible for the Smithsonian Institution and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, among other renowned structures.

And this inside? It has been staged to sell...

Not sure how to describe this decor — Early 21st Century Real Housewives Revival?

Probably. Meaning: that's probably what he had in mind.

It's sad that I, an unemployed lass, actually consider 5.25M for this place as reasonable. Argh!

If we've learned anything about Americans via reality TV, it's that money doesn't buy good taste.

The bedroom looks like it was decorated with Liberace's leftover dish rags.

Maybe that's what he would have had in mind had he been ripped on acid.

What James Renwick Jr. would have had in mind if he'd had way too many artisanal blowtorched cocktails and froyos, and married the Queen of EV Versailles.

If I had to guess where those inside pics were taken, either London or Las Vegas.

What's that rolling sound?

I absolutely fucking HATE IT when gorgeous old townhouses like this are gutted on the inside and tarted up like architectural whores, with all the character-full historical details wiped out in favor of nebbishy modern drek. This house looks like a zombie.

The interior is really and truly godawful and an insult to the elegance of the exterior and what it looked like before they gutted it to look "industrial" and put purple couches and a horse cut into 3 parts as their "art concept". They should be arrested for bad taste and their design license should be burned. Perhaps in that fireplace-

Horrid. Just horrid. But it is a gorgeous house, on one of the most gorgeous blocks in the village. Perhaps the damage can be undone, but not without lots of money.

It would take a lot of money to undo and restore it. Well, just came home w/ the powerball tickets. Will see.
