Just noting the new paint job from this past week over at Raul Candy Store, which has been at 205 Avenue B between East 12th Street and East 13th Street since 1981. (It opened on Avenue D in 1976.)
I've lived nearby for 25 years and I'm curious, what's the deal with this place?
Neighborhood social club? Or a front of some kind? Is there a dice game in the back or what? Like all those vanished "fake bodegas" of the past (of which this is one of the few that remains) clearly the raison d'etre isn't to sell candy.

I love hand painted signs.
