Just what we need...more sidewalk cafes. Then they put their menus next to it - and when the waiters take their orders, there are about 12 inches of sidewalk left. ...and who the fuck would want to eat surrounded by 2nd Avenue traffic? Well, apparently many. Never ever did I recognize a face from the neighborhood in any of these places. I guess we've become a tourist trap now.
I tried Brick Lane recently. A friend who doesn't live in the neighborhood but was familiar with their other locations wanted to go there. She did the ordering. The food and service were very good. The prices didn't seem completely out of line with the times. True, it's not like the $6-10 per person days of yore, but it seems like nothing is. Rose of India, sadly, is no more.
As for the sidewalk cafe, there are quite a few up and down Second Avenue. The traffic is no fun, but good luck trying to convince people to stop driving in the city.

The cafes work well on the other side of the road at Mermaid, Local 92 and Frank's - so, why not?
I'm am always amazed that no matter how hot and humid it is, there are people who want to eat outside. Give me air conditioning, or give me death.
