Turn off any appliances that you don't need on right now, turn off lights, and avoid things like running the laundry if you can.

Turning off the lights in Times Square and pressuring big companies to turn the power down might have more impact than telling working people they shouldn't do their laundry.
Came here to reiterate what Glenn said. There's so much waste beyond the household electricity user. Turn off Times Square.
They close at the same time my building starts getting the hottest.
