Earlier today, the Parks Department placed solar-powered lights on Seventh Street and Avenue A at the entrance to Tompkins Square Park... this comes a day after a delivery man was slashed in the face during an attack yesterday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
As of around 8 p.m., the lights weren't on...
Also today, the Parks Enforcement Patrol and the Department of Sanitation cleaned up the area around the chess tables ... though it still seemed to be business as usual later in the afternoon.

Does your $5,000 per month, 1 bedroom tenement apartment seem like a bad value yet?
Wish we had an electrical grid in this city
Good clear that end of the park out. It’s junkie city lately. This situation is not good for anyone
Friends of Tompkins Sq Park October 15th:
On Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friends of Tompkins Square Park will gather in the main lawn/central plaza to plant flower bulbs and spruce up the garden areas.
Gloves and tools will be provided ... though you are welcome to bring your own favorite trash grabber or rake. All neighbors are welcome.
What are our local elected officials doing to address this situation? I am nervous walking my dog at night or anytime I am in Tompkins where I have been accosted at ALL times of the day. The park needs to be cleared from midnight until 5, Junkies don't have more rights than tax payers.
Enter at your own risk - No one is going to do anything to help the situation - walk your dogs in pairs with a friend or set something up at the dog park---stay safe out there neighbors
It is sad what has become of this growing situation at large, especially with the rise in random, brutal violence against residents such as ourselves whom are just trying to merely exist without drama, crisis or harm. Even with the advent of more tourists who are now visiting NYC following the decline of COVID and of course the lockdown, they too are subject to stabbings, assaults, and worse, death, mostly from the hands of mentally and emotionally unstable people, and of course from the hands of addicts who are out of their mind when they are in attack mode. When our local, state, and national government fails us, everything turns to shit. I have given Mayor Adams adequate time to step up and show us what and who he claimed to be during the election process, without much judgment or criticism, even though I didn't vote for him. And what has he done of significance since January to enshrine and to protect the law abiding, tax paying citizens of NYC? Nothing of virtue or value. He is a colossal disappointment. For a man who worked directly in and with the police department, serving the public, completely aware of just how bad things can be, I expected a broader, more comprehensive plan to turn this city around that I so dearly love. He seems impervious to how it affects each and every one of us while he makes appearances at film premieres, fashion shows, and anything of note which draws the spotlight and attention on him, which suggest he embodies several of the components which form a grandiose narcissistic personality disorder. I didn't think as a city we could do worse with DeBlassio. And yet here we are. I am not fully assigning blame to Adams for the crime and overall problems in general, but when you deny, ignore, and gaslight others into believing what we are witnessing and experiencing on a daily basis is hyperbole, you are divorced from reality. He is the mayor of the largest city in the US and seems to treat this highly coveted spot as if he is in a reality show for our own amusement. I fear how and what the next three years will look like here. Will it become worse? Will he take some accountability for his role as mayor, a role he desperately wanted where he could shine like a bright shooting star, and put into action what he promised? I am still waiting.
Has anyone been over to the West Side lately? Have you seen the amazing areas like Little Island, with its amphitheater, food vendors and amazing landscaping? On the Hudson River they have lounge chairs, beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, soccer fields, skateboard parks, miniature golf, clean bathrooms,
amazing playgrounds, outdoor bars, boat marinas, working water fountains, nice piers and boats where you can have a nice meal at a great restaurant. Just get on a bus or on your bike and go west. Because the EV is done. The situation here is not getting better, it’s only getting worse.
