It's not immediately known who took the skate props — city workers... or perhaps some skaters stashed them for safekeeping or use elsewhere. (Both scenarios seem rather ambitious!)
According to a landscape architect with the Parks Department (from a presentation in February), there's a lot of "asphalt structural damage," and it "needs to be replaced and repaired. And the only way to do that is to take all the asphalt down to the sub base and put new asphalt down."
Posted signage states the work will occur between Oct. 16 and Dec. 1.

The walking loop is so obnoxiously clueless and a huge waste of space.
It was indeed city workers who took the skate ramps.
So sad. A construction site which won't be permanent (we hope) and then a walking loop. To be used by no one - but it will prevent skating, soccer, baseball. And putting net nets on the three hoops for a little corner in the former athletic area. Maybe the fountain will be cool.
East River Park, the field house and now this. The Hudson river promenade is stunning. The east side gets chainlink fences and idled construction machinery. Thanks Parks Department. Rivera's legacy will be an extra bike lane and closing the parks in her district. But the money must be spent.

I think we can just ignore the walking loop. No one will use it and no one will care. The other things like installing nets on the basketball hoops are much more important.
So weird how Carlina Rivera sees no problem at all with closing the majority of parks in her district to construction and underfunding the rest. Does she have a thing against public green space and trees? I mean, at least *phase* these projects so they’re not all happening at once! And provide some TLC to the few green spaces still open please!
Carlina Rivera is completely out of touch with the immediate concerns and needs of our neighborhood and fellow residents. I often ask myself why and how she is re-elected each term. Am I missing something?
She gets reelected because she gets more votes than the other person. So there's a good starting point for change.
Turf would be a better solution and could be used by more people. Who wants to hang out on asphalt accept skate boarders
