Back to the Stones age

That malarkey about an impromptu Fall Out Boy show yesterday at Washington Square Park made me want to...Oh, forget it.

On May 1, 1975, the Stones announced their summer tour by playing an impromptu set on a flatbed truck on lower Fifth Avenue. Here's some shitty-looking footage about the surprise gig from two newscasts...I love the couple's reaction at the 2:18 point.

Wow, that took me back...When they played 5th Avenue I had a job in the mailroom of the New School but we weren't allowed to go out during working hours. Bummer...so I never saw them...but sure wish I did:((( Glad you brought that moment back again, thanks,

Mick

Mick has said this was Charlie's idea, because Charlie, jazz fan that he was/is, heard? read? that in the old days in Harlem, jazz and jump blues bands would use this method to promote themselves.

"first i heard it was sly and the family stone, then it was the stones."

i'll be pissed if i ever miss an impromptu stones performance because i didn't go after someone told me stone temple pilots were playing.
