"Is Butter Lane turning into a bar?"

Upon hearing the news that Butter Lane Cupcakes is going for a beer and wine license... and that the store is now open to midnight...

...and there has been the recent appearance of a rather harmless looking bench, chair, table and umbrella...

... compelled a Seventh Street resident who lives nearby to ask a simple question via e-mail, "Is Butter Lane turning into a bar?"

Well, yeah. It's one thing to have a cupcake and a cup of coffee...(I can't believe I just wrote that...) but beer/wine will likely make people linger, congregate, talk louder... And by having beer/wine available, there's potential to attract people who have already been drinking — people who otherwise may not have stopped by...

I don't even want to hear the word cupcake any more. I used to have such fond associations, too: school bake sales, birthday parties. No more. Thanks, SJP.

That umbrella is hardly harmless...sure there's just one now, but wait until the rain ebbs and that happy orange tulip top multiplies and takes over the entire sidewalk like a swarm of fruit flies to rancid beer and cream cheese frosting...so hungry.

That damn umbrella poked all THREE of my eyes out yesterday. I was so upset I had to go in there and buy a cupcake laced with vodka and morphine.

They should put a sign out that says "Carrie Bradshaw ate here". Cupcakes, along with larger chunks of NYC culture have forever been ruined thanks to the creators of "Sex in the City".
