The Post reports on the homicide in today's NYPD Daily Blotter:
A New Jersey man strangled his gay lover with a rope in the victim's Alphabet City apartment, police sources said yesterday.
Davawn Robinson, 22, of Paterson, NJ, allegedly wrapped the rope around the neck and wrist of Edgard Mercado, 39, in Mercado's apartment on Avenue C near East Eighth Street at 4 a.m. Friday.
Authorities found Mercado's body face up on the floor of his bedroom. Robinson had fled, police said, but was arrested the next day on murder charges.

hot and getting hotter
Thanks for posting about Edgard Mercado's murder. Edgard was a dear man who had lived in the neighborhood for years. Originally from Peru, he will be buried there next week. Originally from Peru, he was loved by many of us here in NYC. Quiet, shy, police report that he fought hard for his life. He lost, and we did too. His smile, his gentle and generous way of being in the world will never be forgotten.
I saw the NYPD medical examiner outside the building as well, setting up the gurney to take inside. Sad.
Edgard was an excellent classmate, professor (he taught at City College), writer, co-worker but besides all these he was an excellent friend. We are all devastated with this tragedy. The world has lost an exceptional human being and the world of literature is mourning a great writer and poet. In 7 years of knowing him, I never saw him mad or upset, he had much to live for, he is my inspiration to finish a phd. My dear friend rest in peace. You will never be forgotten. I love you.

Thank you for leaving the comments about Edgard.
This is such devestating news. I cannot believe it. Professor Mercado was the kindest, most generous person in the world. This is not an exaggeration. I was a student of his two years ago and I kept in touch with him for a short while after that. this is surreal. I hope his murderer will be brought to real justice. May his soul rest in peace. My heart is so heavy rightr now.
Edgard Mercado fue mi alumno, mi colega y un excelente amigo. Era un hombre bueno, siempre sonriente, estudioso, obtenia calificaciones excelentes. Nunca lo olvidare.
I still can't believe it. He was one of the few professors at City College that I respected. Always helpful and so nice. I just spoke to him 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping they'll have a memorial or something for him at the college. He deserves it.
Mr. Mercado was a professor of mine at The City College of New York. He was one of the best professors I've ever had and I am truly saddened by what took place. I am also saddened that the college did not give information on what happened. I am really going to miss him. I'm sorry Mr. Mercado. I hope you're resting in heaven.
