Opposition to South Brooklyn Pizza's liquor license

South Brooklyn Pizza opened in April at 122 First Ave. between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place... they go before the SLA today for a liquor license... and as this sign shows on First Avenue, there's opposition...



I haven't tried this pizza yet... A reader passed along his or her experience:

A guy who works very hard selling a $4 slice in a neighborhood that buys $1 slices and $2 Falafel complains to another worker about how hard he works to sell the pizza and it isn't even his place. While the cheese is good (although a little too subtle), and the crust thin and crisp, the flavor is underwhelming. The first-class ingredients could use a little kick-up. I don't plan to spend $4 there again.

4 dollars for a slice is pretty steep.

We live above the "back dining area" and "garden" that that place is busy getting ready. (I figured out what that was thanks to a post on Jeremiah's blog). I feel that workers have really stepped up construction recently. They just have a little sliver of a "garden" and yet they're actually building what looks like a little brick fountain in the corner. I don't know what it's going to be like, having another back garden there. There are so many apartments all around. In a different part of the same courtyard there is already Lunasa's back garden complete with singing football fans, and below our bathroom window we have International Bar's garden. Oh well.... Pity I couldn't make it to that SLA meeting conveniently scheduled for 11 am...

The reader's "underwhelming" review was spot on.

After all this waiting, rather dissappointing.

Quite bland, and yes, at $4 a slice(!), that immediately puts it in the "never-again" category.

If I'm going to have mediocre pizza, I may as well only pay a dollar for it...

I recall a popular "favorite restaurants" thread a while back, but what are people's thoughts on the best SLICE in the hood? I've been uninspired by most of the places in the EV, even the ones that are deemed "the BEST!"

Anyone?

(For the record, in the best by-the-pie category, my vote goes to Luzzo's Diavola pizza).

Hmmmm... I'm a bad pizza foodie. I'll pretty much eat anything. I'm really happy with a slice from Nino's. I like their artichoke knockoff.

i dont agree with this review at all. i stopped in off the street yesterday for a quick slice and loved it. especially slathering on a bit of the roasted garlic they have out in their condiments area.

it is super tasty and go back all the time, esp since they are open way late. they are generous with the roasted garlic and peppers...
