Area residents reeled when Hurricane Irene gave a small group of cockroaches the confidence to face their personal struggles with flood waters, abuse, and popular depictions in the media as vile and dirty pests.
While navigating perilous action sequences and driving rain, these household pests found a tree at the Sixth Street ramp to be much safer than their turbulent home lives had ever been.
Now they've united not only by their fear of the rising East River, but also by an insatiable desire to move inland to those dark. moist places where they can satisfy their lust for starches, sweets, grease, meat products, cheese, beer, leather, glue, hair, starch in book bindings, flakes of dried skin, and decaying organic animal and plant matter.
