But it can't hurt to email Rosie and make the same request... or heck maybe we can start a petition drive or something? Damn we shoulda done that last night...
I put in for:
Avenue A between 7th and St. Marks (or if Avenues are off limits, which I've heard then) East 7th Street at Avenue A as...
to name/co-name you need a petition (yes a petition) with local folks requesting it, those that live and/or work on the requested block. getting folks outside that block is great, but there have to be folks that live there. then you make a presentation to the local cb, and lobby local elected officials. it's time consuming but can be done. generating press seems to hasten the process. there are also programs for paying to name a tree guard, cobblestone at temperance, park bench. and sports stadiums if you are a bank.
I know people are responding emotionally, but they should take some time to let it all sink in and evaluate it after their mourning period. They might find that naming a park bench, or a stone at the fountain would be a more appropriate remembrance.
Give me a break, Glamma. Some dude amongst a ton of others died who hung out in the area, I know he's your friend, but you don't rename a street after someone just because he was your friend.

Does anyone know how to go about getting this section of Ave A named after Bob?
goggla i was thinking the same thing! would also also a stone tile at the temperance fountain in the park...
the notion of a stone was 86'd at the memorial last night as too establishment.
i think they are a lovely way to support the park conservancy.
renaming a street - even with a blue sign, and not a more permanent, official green sign, is a damning, bureaucratic undertaking.
probably best and more fitting to affix an unsanctioned sign to 113 or a sanctioned plaque at a chess table.
I already set it in motion with Rosie's office.

First of all, great photos Lindsay, I love how you captured Chico smiling here as he's working. He looks like he's having a blast.
Secondly, I was amazed at how you and Chico just knocked out the design of this in no time, right in front of my eyes last night at the memorial.
From concept to reality, literally 12 hours!
I'm sure Ray will be thrilled!
Avenue A thanks you, thanks you, thanks you!

i'm not sure how i feel about all this. the renaming of streets, in general, kind of bugs me.
