I can't believe they replace those beautiful windows with those ugly things and then made a wall out of one of the giant windows... ugh.. so ugly..thanks for uglifying our neighborhood.. the
I'm not a fan of Starbucks, but I can't stand this immature form of "protest." Yes, Marty, feel bad for this employee. He and his coworkers will have to deal with all the shit people will throw (probably literally) at the store. But I guess they deserve it since they work for such an evil corporation, right? Please.
People, if you hate Starbucks, then DON'T GO. Terrorizing their employees only will only make you look like a douche bag.
I also feel bad for this employee. He is lucky to have a job in this economy, and he likely has enough to do without having to clean egg off the windows. You're really teaching "the man" a lesson when your average, every day working man has to clean up the disgusting mess you made.
Yeah, see... I'm no great fan of Starbuck's either, and enough already, but I'm also no real fan of some working-class guy having to climb up on a ladder to clean up the childish (at least I hope they're that young) self-righteous bullshit of a couple of kids on a Saturday night. Congratulations, kids. You've got another black guy cleaning up your mess in an expensive NY neighborhood, but it's OK. You're fighting for the bar/bookstore/whatever-the-fuck previous business that used to be there before you ever moved to town. Take a bow. Hey, here's five bucks, go buy some more eggs.
Sorry, I should have put my name to that last comment and didn't. Enough with this "Anonymous" crap. If you believe in what you're saying, sign your damn name...
Not a fan of Starbucks, but how are they an evil corporation? Not all corporations are evil. Besides, in this economy, a lot of people who were laid off ended up working at Starbucks. And they provide teenagers, senior citizens, and college students job and give them character and sense of pride, which the one who egged this does not have. The Bean should be egged for being a snob and a coffee elitist. That place caters only to the beautiful and yuppies. Starbucks caters to the working and middle class.
What is it about Starbucks that draws such ire relative to other chain businesses that displaced locals? When McDonald's® or Rite-Aid moved onto 1st Avenue, or Whole Foods to Houston, why did nobody egg them?
Is it that Starbuck's is the most extreme example of conspicuous consumption? Or is that NIMBY eggers feel most guilty about how they might actually patronize that one?
An employee cleaning the windows is an employee not serving coffee. Enough employees not serving coffee means unhappy customers, which means they'll stop coming and/or lodging complaints with corporate. Egg is too easy to clean; where are those stupidass sticker kids when they would actually be doing something worthwhile?
Nimbys loathe Starbucks because Mosaic Man did not do its signage unlike the Bean, even though the Bean is only friendly to the beautiful people and the yuppie snobs and their dogs. It's all politics. At least Starbucks serves everyone with no attitude, especially and including the minorities.
For what it is worth, this man photographed is one of the new managers of this location. At Starbucks, everyone chips in to the cause. It is a good company to work for. Look it up. We will consider hiring you.
We can assume the last three "Anonymous" are all the same person / Starbucks employee? Who else would be familiar with the staff of a yet to be opened chain?
Oh, for crying out loud. The guy's wiping off some egg, not working in a coal mine. It's a pain in the ass of a chore, not an act of enslavement. I think an egg toss is a legit protest. I'm sorry. I moved to the East village to avoid Starbucks. I understand its value but I'd like it to offer that value elsewhere as I want to live in a distinctive neighborhood with independent store owners and exist in a place that doesn't look like the shitty Midwestern suburb I've spent years - and a lot of time in therapy - trying to suppress. The problem is a moneybags dick like Starbucks shows up and it elevates the rents and therefore decreases the chances of the little guy being able to make it. It's already bad enough. And frankly, I could very easily live without Rite AID, McDonalds or Whole Foods. This is so fucking depressing. Love you, EVG
This IS depressing. And even more so because I can't tell these days if I'm reading about the East Village or East Hampton. You guys... your problems are rather soft and exclusive, don't you think? This coffee chain has taken over this independent coffee store (that has another branch, etc....). It's all about the shit you buy, and why what you buy makes you cooler (or more authentic, or aggrieved, or...), but in some way better. Which, in retrospect, seems as competitive as Starbucks and The Bean. You're arguing over degrees of privilege and comfort. You don't want a neighborhood, you want a club, and each and every one of you wants to have a say in who gets in and who doesn't. The neighborhood (the city, for that matter, is not your tree-house). Good luck, I'm gone. The neighborhood you wanted left years ago.
All this egg talk has got me reminiscing: “Look, Babs. So many little eggies, and I'm still starving, and I'm going to eat them all before I go to sleepie.” Egg Lady forever!

I feel sorry for the employee who had to clean it up, but it was a well-deserved target. Eggsactly!

Eggs-cellent.

Still wouldn't drink their coffee, though.
Those windows! Is there a catalogue that EVERY new East Village business shops from? Floor to ceiling hideous.

A statement:
This act has more to do with the landlord, Ben Shaoul, than the tenant, Starbucks.

Mature.
Here's hoping for Starbucks to run the Bean out of its coffee, and expose the Bean for who and what they really are.
Hatred for trashing Starbucks gets posted and praise here, but criticism over its counterpart gets censored. Mature indeed. Welcome to EV Iran.

I hate to see food of any kind wasted.
