I loved JAS Mart. Both the upstairs and the store downstairs. How many Subways and 7 Elevens do we need down here? I've never seen anyone in the Subway next to McDonalds on First Avenue by 6th Street. And the 7 Eleven on the Bowery does not exactly seem to pack them in, either.
These guys aren't too big to fail as evidenced by the Nathan's combo on 14th and 2nd from a few years ago. That said, I've fully accepted Duane Reade as my drug store - I wonder how long it'll take me to accept 7-11 as my convenience store?
They are overdoing it. Like Starbucks, half will close. Subway on 1st ave is dead as hell and won't last long I bet. Not sure how this will fare on St Marks..as many want diet yogurt and smoothies and healthier fare than what they have. One thing the bodegas have over this crap is organic stuff vegan options. Not sure how many in the area want hotdogs and slurpees really.
That area of the street reminds me of the GAP that used to be a store or two down.
TBH, if it's a 24 hr 7-11, I am horrified to say that I bet it'll do well. I hope it doesn't affect that grocery store there though. It's not the best grocery store but they have good sandwiches.

Might as well be a coffin.
i really think they dont know how much this will set up the universe. im not joking, something like this could really bring on the apocalypse.
boycott this cultural travesty please
once subway and their ilk are the only businesses that can afford to rent around here they will replace everything and be busy
disgusting
Please don't spend money in these places and maybe they'll go away.
