Looking at this morning's headlines...

Per a broker in the article: "Right now, he said, the average rent for a one-bedrooms in Williamsburg is $3,300, $2,875 in Long Island City and $2,800 in the East Village."

The hipster invasion has already begun. There's already some scruffy hipster who plunks a guitar in his pajama pants some mornings outside the F train entrance on 1st ave. Not even playing the guitar - just (fairly obviously) looking for attention. Bet his parents back in Ohio don't even know that the $2500 rent they pay for his one-bedroom is helping destroy the neighborhood...

hipster invasion has "begun"? where have you been for the last 25 years?

they started williamsburg as an outpost last century and its overtaken LES. Now we're getting some seepage back here. It's how it is.

Gee whiz...not that we didn't know it already but I guess the Williamsburg 'scene' is fully being exposed for the sub-cultural fraud that it is and has been for almost ten years. Guess it's hard to purportedly live outside the mainstream while paying nearly 3-grand in rent to be among the hipster intellegencia and all those dressed down bearded children of privilege playing banjos in the street.

Ha! I love it.

Another reason I've loved being in the E. Village for the last 20 years!

@abrod -- sounds like you are describing Hippie Lou, who has to be in his 40's at least, unless there are two guitar strumming pj-wearing guys in the neighborhood? He's an interesting cat with quite the past. Say hi to him some time.

@Spike-

I think this guy is younger than his 40s, and he's new to the area too as far as I can tell - I haven't seen this guy before. Only seems to pop up in the mornings on 1st ave between 2nd st and Houston.

Unless Hippie Lou has a multi-year migratory pattern maybe?

LOL, they went to Williamsburg FROM the EV in the 90s.

Most hipsters hate the East Village, because there are too many bros here at night. Nothing to worry about.

I drove through Williamsburg a few weeks ago. Was surprised to see how much it resembles Greenwich Village, the touristy parts. It's over there, too. It's the next EV.

Nah, there's still plenty of hipsters in the EV. A lot of them are aging, and don't think of themselves as hipsters though. They are probably all reading EV Grieve

I'm cool, scummy, sexy, normal, rocknroll working-man artist in my mid-twenties in the east village, with the old-school mentality, there are many of us, don't fret my sons...
we will wash away the yuppie scum and their flip-flops!

Does this mean they will "spill" back?! If so, the rent will triple again with their 'artisan' bullcrap!!

anon 7:41, every single one of us is "aging." At the same rate. All the time. Except you though, because you are clearly special.

Williamsburg isn't the next anything. If anything, theyy're calling things the next Williamsburg.

LvV: Nope, I'm aging too. Never said I wasn't. :)
