Gentle Wash Laundromat has a new owner, sign, on Avenue A (aka, today in laundromat news)

Gentle Wash Laundromat has new ownership now at 97 Avenue A near East Sixth Street ... the new owner retained the former staff ... workers put up the new sign on Saturday... EVG reader Creature noted that the inside was painted and all the Asian nicknacks were removed... (and expect wi-fi service soon.)

Can't personally speak much about the place. There are several one-star Yelp reviews ("Please don't go here unless you want to be treated like an insect and for your laundry to smell like poop") ... and one person referred to the owner as an (ugh) "evil dragon lady."

Regardless, says longtime patron Creature of the former owner: "All I know is she was always nice to me and will be missed. It feels like another institution leaving, but that may just be me."

While I liked the former sign...

... it's nice to see that another laundromat didn't close down for good around the neighborhood. (Like here ... here ... and some day here.)

My friends were visiting and they were all like "What IS that place?" and I was REALLY embarrassed. NOT cool.

This place has great new owners, face lift is a nice idea. And as usual great drop off service.

YES!!!! The previous Dragon lady is gone! I will now start going back to this Laundromat!

What's weird is that on their Yelp page, all the new reviews stating that they are under new management without the Dragon Lady have been filtered.

The "dragon lady" was always nice to me and I loved the kitschy Korean nicknacks all over the place. But I never did drop off service because I don't like people I don't know touching my things.

Sad.

I live around the corner. This has been my Laundromat for as long as they were there. And yes, the Korean owner was an absolute Dragon Lady. I was petrified of making her angry. She treated her employees very poorly. But she was nice at times, too...In the end, she didn't bother me as much...I wish her well.

You publish these racist comments? To call someone a dragon lady is totally racist. Her name was Grace and she was treated like total shit by damn near everyone that ever walked into that place which is why maybe she was a little rough around the edges. If you took one minute to ask her name you'd have learned she loved her kids, her country and her religion. She literally used to hug me when I walked in to that place, probably because I treated her humanely. I've lived here for 7 years and I'm a white guy that wears a suit every day and also gets scowled at by people in this neighborhood all the time. Get over yourselves and stop judging people without speaking to them.

Comments don’t really matter to me, I personally dropped off a 20lbs bag with my laundry in the AM yesterday and it was done by 3 PM. My clothes smelled fresh and they were neatly folded. All I know is that I have received great service and I am coming back for more. Thank you.
