Renovations are underway at the former 9th St. Bakery,
which closed June 9 after 87 years in business. Workers have removed the awning and gutted the interior. No official word on what's taking the space. Bakery owner Oleg Kucherenko had said that a juice/smoothie place was going to be the next tenant.

I can't wait for Hoboken Hoof to take over this location. Better than biscuits! Mmm!
It's amazing how few good places there are in the East Village to buy freshly baked bread. So sad to see this place go. I hope the new fish shop comes to be, that's another thing we're lacking.
The few places that sell bread are not baking it on site... can anyone suggest a place that still bakes bread here in the neighborhood...
Do we really need another juice/smoothie place in the neighborhood?

Subway!
Bakery that makes bread, not cupcakes! +1
I swear by all that is holy and baked, I will never set foot in whatever abomination is being installed in place of our wondrous bakery. May their juice curdle and their smoothies be full of lumps!
I really like the bread from Moishe's on 2nd ave...really good multi-grain and whole wheat loaves. And I enjoy the atmosphere...and sometimes the woman behind the counter gives me a free cookie.
