Celebrate 9/11! Its 9/11 season. Ray Kelly is promoting the holiday today on the front of the NY Post. What will you give your loved ones to celebrate 9/11? better get out there and do your shopping now for the BIG DAY - 9/11!
As tragic as the attacks were I think a lot of New Yorkers like myself want to move forward after all this time. There must be a time when family and friends of those that died that day can stop mourning, and not have to participate in the annual ceremonies on that spot. There has already been a generation born post 9/11/01 which will read, view video's and hear stories from that event. The inescapable tourist attraction (maybe the cities biggest draw) of this site along with souvenir photo booklets only work to undermine the dignity of the memorial. The over the top security to enter the plaza (7 check points) and to my surprise the 2 spot lights are back even though the (Freedom Tower) new 1 WTC tower was suppose to be the symbol of our enduring spirit as a city. It is hard not to be a little cynical at the spectacle this somber day has left behind. .
"spectacle"? Children and loved ones of family members reading aloud in memorium the names of those who were murdered is a "spectacle" to you? When I think of my high school buddy or the countless fatherless and motherless children i don;t have an ounce of cynicism in my body, which is a rare event. That you do maintain a sense of cynicism in the face of commemoration of this horrible event speaks to your character. I'd seek help.
@kfbeau, you're right. This was a horrible tragedy, but the neverending grandstanding of the relatives needs to stop. The building has been raised, the memorial open, and the museum almost complete. We felt your pain, let's all move forward. There's no reason to keep saying "Never Forget" because we never will.

enough already... :(
I thought I remembered dance clubs using spotlights to attract people a few years back around the summertime.
Shame on me for not remembering what this was. Bless the families of the victims. Remember the heroes.
We should stop being so internet-cynical for a day.
anyone joking about 9-11 should really STFU. 2900 plus people died horrible deaths for absolutely no reason.

"grandstanding of the relatives needs to stop". Man, you are seriously f*cked. Let them grieve. It doesn't affect you. Jesus.
