It was impressive enough to cause people to stop and photograph it during a snowstorm yesterday. (Present company included.)
Word is the thing weighs 6,600 pounds.

Hah- me too, stopped in the middle of the snowstorm last night to take a pic. That sucker would be more impressive if it were standing OUTSIDE in the plaza, braving the elements.
Why is there no ACE in place on the face?

This thing just doubled the value of the Death Star. Is it really a child friendly lure for Watson?

This would have been a perfect subject for Edward Hopper if he was still around to paint it. He liked capturing the nighttime effects of artificial light hitting objects and people and the sense of loneliness and alienation it can convey.
Why would Jeff Koons put his bubble bunny in this ugly building that nobody wants and the neighborhood hates?
The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.
Balloon animals are not that interesting aesthetically or artistically. Blowing them up in scale doesn't really change that. People are impressed by objects that are shiny and large though I guess.
Senseless art in a senseless building. Where are the biscuits?
I have to laugh at the notion that 'everybody hates' 51 Astor Pl and that 'nobody in the neighborhood wants it.' For many, many years I have lived on Third Ave just north of Astor Pl, and I pass this location on an almost daily basis. And let me tell you: the Maki building is a HUGE improvement over that piece of crap Cooper Union building it replaced.
We can all collectively mourn the loss of the American Bible Society building. That was a gem. But it's been gone for nearly 60 years. And the Maki building, for many people who have lived in the neighborhood for a long time (myself included), is a welcome improvement over the hideous construction it preceded.
Silly w̶a̶b̶b̶i̶t̶ Watson, T̶r̶i̶x̶ EV is for kids.
