Dumpsters are ready for the remains of the Peter Stuyvesant Post Office
As we first reported earlier, the Peter Stuyvesant Post Office on East 14th Street closes for good at 1 p.m. today. (The branch here near Avenue A will be open tomorrow JUST for P.O. Box customers make arrangements for the new P.O. outlet at 333 E. 14th St.)
Meanwhile, @nyev_eliza noted the arrival this morning of dumpsters outside the East 13th Street loading docks... perhaps we'll finally find that "lost" box from xmas 1994 in the dumpster.

I should check that out. Maybe I'll find all my mail they've lost over the years.
What will the old building be used for?
Oh god! and I'm not there to dumpster dive! Who knows what will go into that dumpster?!
Priceless. This afternoon I went by the old building, and it was locked up tighter than a drum. Then I walked by the Duane Reade space, and that isn't open for business either. So how long until we get SOME kind of working post office in the immediate area?
If you peek through the paper, the Duane Reade space looks pretty close to finished. They told me today it'll be open for all business Monday. Hth
Wait. So the Post Office for 10009 will be within the 10003 Zip Code? 333 E. 14th has a 10003 zip is on the west side of 1st Ave and in 1003.
@Anon. 5:11, thank you, good to know. @Anon.9:16, this whole scenarios is senseless; putting the new PO be in the right zip code would make some sense, so of course it can't happen.
...'09 needs to complain, and then they will remind you about the post office on 3rd street (?!) except it isn't as big as 14th st was (!?)
9:47—It isn't as big, and it isn't open Saturdays; those two windows will fill up damn fast.
