Revisiting Luigi's 3rd Ave. Pizza
[Last Saturday]
Ghost signage for Luigi's 3rd Ave. Pizza recently appeared on the northwest corner of Third Avenue and East 12th Street. Via the magic of Facebook, we found two photos of Luigi's when it was open in the early to mid 1980s…
The photos are by John Fensten, whose daughter Susan Fensten shared them with us.
The corner space is now being fitted for a Funkiberry Premium Frozen Yogurt shop.

Isn't Funkberries the place where "you can rule the scene?" If so, that's awesome. Andy ruled Studio 54, Ann Magnuson ruled Club 57, now you can rule Funkberries if you've got the talent or looks and the drive and it ever opens.
I don't want to rule *anything* that sounds like it would be found in a toilet after someone forgot to flush, thank you very much.
I love that first shot.
Thank you for these wonderful photos John Fensten, Susan Fensten, and, of course, EV Grieve!
omg yay ! fro yo !! party !!
*sigh* soon gluten will be illegal and all pizza parlors will be driven underground...
