This is just a charade, a consolation prize now i.e. you get to act out your '88 riot fantasies so long as there's no actual riot and you get the proper permits to have your nostalgia-fest.
These bands need to hang it up and get over it.
Seriously, what is there to gain having these shows? To remember when the East Village had balls it lost and was a vibrant, creative, unique place it hasn't been for well over a decade? Is anyone gonna actually speak up/out or is it just gonna be a bunch of bands and if it's the latter it's bullshit cuz then it's just entertainment with no real connection to what it's "celebrating".
That's another thing: what's with celebrating a riot that started from socioeconmic inequality and the machinations which created that then ultimately rendered it irrelevant with a tide of unafforable to 95% of the population apartments and co-ops?
Events like these don't mean shit in 2014 NYC and it's time to stop having them unless another real riot happens. Stop glorifying the past and using an event so you can have your shitty band play the a park let alone a show. I mean Hammerbrain do you EVER play a show outside of one of these things? You ain't part of shit around there anymore. Nihilistics, too. YOU'RE FROM LONG ISLAND. Why not get your overrated shitty band pals Sheer Terror to play this? O wait there's no $$$ in it, they'd rather play a free show at a hipster "bazaar" which pays them top dollar.
Maybe since everyone has one of those cute little 12 oz. chick magnet/dick magnet dogs these days, the new East Village mantra should be "Die Puppy Scum."
The two shows this weekend were a SMASH, enjoyed by more than 200 people who, unlike anonymASS "D" (for DOPE), also listened to and dug the speakers who explained the history of our neighborhood, the purpose behind commemorating the Tompkins Square Police Riot, and current events, not just the wonderful bands that played.
The fact that vintage bands like Hammerbrain, Nihilistics, Urban Waste, Iconicide and the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black are STILL doing their thing for 30+ years is AMAZING!! They are better and more relevant than EVER!!
I triple dare anonymASS DOUCHEBAG to make those nasty remarks to the FACES of those band members and not get a New York-style knuckle sandwich!!
All the bands were awesome. Even the hawks sat in the trees above the stage (particularly for Transgendered Jesus and the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black). Thanks for the great show!
Iconicide were born as a direct result of the Riots, so it is natural that we play the Anniversaries. We've been putting shows together for years, including many where we don't book ourselves. Last year we ran a venue downstairs at the Pyramid, which paid and treated everyone equally and fairly. It takes a lot more energy to whine, than it does to do something constructive yourself. Are you feeling tired yet?

Rain or shine, these shows WILL go on!!
the Nihilistics sounded harsh and raw last year, old school punk that still has it. excellent!
EXCELLENT LINEUP!
It's supposed to be cloudy, which is neither rain nor shine.
I'll be out of town, anyway.
What happened to Yuppicide?
Hello Dr. Gecko: Yuppicide has severely limited their touring -- we did ask them to come this year, cuz they're GREAT!!
