Thurston Moore has a new record (The Best Day) out today (Pitchfork says that it has "a distinctly Sonic Youth-ian discord."). You can check out the track "Speak to the Wild" above" …
Meanwhile, in New York magazine, Moore does the interview while shopping at Mast, walking on Avenue A and sitting in Tompkins Square Park. He reminiscences, but nothing too dramatic.
We walk by the Pyramid Club, one of the few holdouts from those days. “There was a nighttime collaboration between us and the drag queens who ruled that place,” he remembers. “They thought we were perfectly absurd. They would introduce the bands—the Swans, Sonic Youth—and make fun of us.”

I don't know who Thurston Moore is, nor nor do I care to find out. I was a regular at The Pyramid from the very beginning, and was there every night, for about 10 years until about 1992. I went back about 5 years ago and I was shocked. Nothing about the original Pyramid remans. It is a mainstream joke for suburban teenagers. It is still a cool space, and if a cool promoter along the lines of Lady Bunny was able to get a night there, I would definitely check it out.
The trk is really good. The video is lame, unnecessary and unfortunate. Does Moore actually approve of this image drivel and then release it to represent the song, if so, his judgement is suspect. At least it's not a slick, hack director who's responsible but still--WTF!
Anonymous 8:46, Have you been living on another planet all these years, that you don't know who Thurston Moore is?
if the person who commented that he was a fixture at the pyramid and wasted every night there for 10 years, doesn't know who Thurston Moore is, he needs to take his head out of his ass and try to be more conscious of the world around his sorry sphere.
Thurston Moore was one of the co-founders of Sonic Youth in 1980 or so. Have a little respect!
Thurston, with Kim Gordon as a member of Sonic Youth, was one of those 'regulars' you crow about
He's the guy with chap lips that isn't Henry Rollins but talks just as much in every music documentary.
Right, since when is it OK to insult someone who doesn't happen to know a musician you think should be dancing on the frontal lobe of everyone's mind?
Way to be a neighbor.
to be fair the first commenter was kinda being a dick
I met Kim one night at The Levee on 1st and 1st. I was an incoherent moron. End of story.
I used to go dancing at Pyramid and it was always awesome; glad it's still there!!:)
