An EVG reader hadn't seen the low-key French bistro open since at least last Thursday.
Turns out there's a good reason for that: Management left this message Monday on Facebook …
It is with a broken heart that I need to inform you that Le Jardin Bistro has closed its doors.
I want to thank all of you, employees, customers, friends for helping us to make the past year so special.
My kitchen crew was amazing and gave it all, to allow us every day to serve exceptional food: Thank you.
Customers: You have been supportive and your friendliness has been really inspiring. On the behalf of all the members past and present of Le Jardin Bistro, I thank you for all you did for us and with us.
The revived restaurant at 115 Avenue C between East Seventh Street and East Eighth Street opened last August in the former Apartment 13 space. The original Le Jardin Bistro was on Cleveland Place until its 2010 closure. They opened in 1995.

wow this is so sad
this was a very very good french place
reasonably priced , solid food , beautiful space
I thought for sure it was going to take off and I would never get a table on friday or saturday
My reading comprehension isnt great, but what is the good reason here? Maybe its something in the facebook post but not copied here? Anyway, I loved LJB when it was on Cleveland, really chill back garden and cheap rose. I always meant to go to the new location, but didnt get a chance. maybe thats the good reason? They couldnt survive w/out my patronage?
I too liked LJB when it was on Cleveland Place. It was a little out of my price range but a nice place to go for birthdays and such. Nice food for a reasonable price, considering the neighborhood. I more or less forgot that they had reopened in the EV and never went. Alas.
I was a little worried about it this winter when they started closing on Mondays (it seemed), but then spring came and I saw people there all the time.
It's too bad, I really liked it and the people there were so nice.
Had a feeling this was coming for some time now once they started doing Groupon-style specials. Too bad, though. The food was great, and the space was wonderful.
I'm close to Ave B and occasionally make my way over to Ave C and have spotted this place but I thought it was a cheese shop. Sorry to hear of its closing, I think I would have like it if I only knew about it.
reasonably priced, solid, good, French standards and classics ✓
friendly and attentive service ✓
no arrogance, cockiness and pretensions ✓
did not attract the dbs and the scenesters ✓
did not serve $8 deep fried chicken sandwich that's made in habanero puree and buttermilk, dredged in spices ✓
did not serve $9 bone broth in to go cup
it wasn't a joint for those with Self Illusion of Selectivity (#SIos) ✓
on why LJB closed
the food was pretty mediocre the couple times i went /shrug
it's a nice space, someone will snap it up
Dollar oysters between 5 and 7, decent steak frites. Really sad to see them go.
Really liked this place but I have to say it was not very welcoming from the street -
it ALWAYS looked/seemed like it was closed even when it wasn't.
and it was in fact closed quite often
This is a shame. I had some really excellent food here in a comfortable, quiet setting. Staff was great.
This was one of my favorite places to eat -- sad now
This is unfortunate and sad. I am a fool for not trying this restaurant seeing as I live across the street. I just imagined it would somehow be there for a long time. Stupid me.
I guess this is part of the problem in getting word out. I went to the place on Cleveland for years, mainly in the summer for the garden. I had no idea it had relocated to Ave C, and I otherwise have little reason to venture over there. One of the great services this blog provides is giving notice of places opening in the area -- missed this one
Was always treated here like a person, not just a consumer. Dorian, the manager, always comped me and my companions free drinks or apps or desserts. Very welcoming. And where else can you find very good and authentic bouillabaisse for under $30 nowadays in NYC. Also, a few dollars could buy you space all night long on weeknights sipping wine or a drink and be alone with your thoughts or be creative, without having anybody pestering you. There were no hipster staff or suspender wearing waiters or wannabe model waitresses that would make you feel guilty about not spending enough money. A true Parisian bistro. Quelle dommage it closed. Good luck to Dorian and his staff.
Like other posters who patronized this restaurant when it was on Cleveland Place, I had no idea it had moved right over here to Avenue C. I wish I had known.
This is so sad, we loved this place and went there every week.
I hope they reopen somewhere else, although it doesn't sound like it :(
Such a shame. This was my new favorite spot. Such authentic food!
Too bad! I noticed my cc charge would be to former biz name. Don't know if that played any factor?
Hello! Not sure if the original creator of this post will see this, as it is many years old! However, my husband and I loved Le Jardin! So much so that we got engaged at the original location on Cleveland Place. I am hoping that I can get in touch with the owner to see if there is a picture of the outside of the restaurant. The one on google is blocked by a scaffolding so it won't work. I would like to frame a picture of the outside of the restaurant for a surprise 25th anniversary gift for my husband. If anyone can help I would appreciate!
Hi! My husband and I were engaged at the original Le Jardin on Cleveland Place! I am trying to get a picture of the outside of the original restaurant on Cleveland Place to frame as an 25th anniversary gift for my husband. The picture on google has a scaffolding in front of the restaurant so that won't work. If I can get in touch with the owner somehow or anyone else who worked there at the time and may have a picture, i would be so grateful!
