Often a sleeper collection in Milan, Marc Jacobs pulled off another hit for spring — a mash-up of military uniforms and Japanese boudoir silks for the brand’s touchstone archetype, the East Village hipster.
Reaction via Jezebel:
Hasn’t the East Village been denigrated enough, without Marc Jacobs attempting to make its denizens look like a mutant child of strung-out Jim Morrison and Weekend at Bernie’s?

Of all the male models, they choose one that's bow-legged? Plus, I think Mr. Jacobs has been too ensconced in his WEST Village townhouse to make it over to the EAST Village in the last five years. Where are these hipsters of which he speaks? They're all in Bushwick. And not wearing Marc Jacobs.
Pathetic fashion PR, don't let it bother you next season it will be all about Flatbush.
I guess this means EV guys are gonna have to throw out their itty-bitty too-short jackets and matching too-tight too-short pants. And shoes. At least we still don't have to buy socks, Japanese boudoir silks look kind of pricey for most EV budgets. That mostly goes towards rent and drinks at the 13th Step.
I hate the fashion people. It's exploitative on every level. It's like oh look the neighborhood is being demolished I think I'll crap on it too, you know. Really. I swear.
its fascion, for fascism, image control and financial parasitism.
First it was Doc Martens and Schott, now it's Marc Jacobs. The more things change…
More Jane Jacobs, Less Marc Jacobs!
I would be more concerned about a Marc Jacobs boutique opening than his trying to graft some cool onto some ugly ass clothes. If you think Ralph and Hugo Boss aren't eyeing the EV already you are not paying attention to what is happening in this town.
Men/dudes wearing flip flops....yuk.
Last time I checked the EV has no beach.
Jane Jacobs paves the way for Marc Jacobs.
checked it out and while I gotta admit it's not for me, at least it's interesting, which is more than you can say for about 98% of the looks around here lately
I'm finding it be a struggle deciding if these looks are worse than the salmon shorts people refuse to stop wearing even though they're dated as fuck and boring as hell.
"It's interesting" ... so are thalidomide babies. Gaunt, bow-legged, vaguely feminine and bearing his humiliating vestures with apathy -- it's the new man that you've always wanted, a cypher completely void of masculinity. At least you don't have to worry about her/him catcalling the ladies ... or protecting them. What brave new world that has such people in it.
Boy, are we back to heroin chic?
Like them or not, at least it's not more normcore or salmon pants. Not that anyone in the East Village would be daring enough to step outside their retro 80s prep wear and mandatory Wayfarers.
Ricky Rickets needs a sammich!!!!
At least this look is interesting. Not sure how it affects anyone. Guess you're not as open minded and creative as you'd like people to think you all are. Real classy making fun of a teenager btw.
At least Marc Jacobs used to hang at Squeezebox and was very much a part of the downtown scene. I wish him all of the best.
Great threads for the TSP dog run
Let us not be too quick to praise Jezebel, whose staff is largely comprised of the awful overprivileged woo girls getting wasted on Avenue A every weekend.
Tattooed knees? We're supposed to get our knees tattooed—all in the name of fashion?
I think the doctors specializing in tattoo removal are getting kickbacks.
Where can I get some hip huggin' skinny khakis? I think they could be even more exciting than Japanese silk shorts!
Yes, because at some point all people will regret getting tattooed... I got my first tattoo at 15, some 25 years and many more tattoos later, I haven't regretted them or thought about getting any of them removed.
Hey! No using my husband as a cheap, easy metaphor. He dressed nicely, occasionally spectacularly well, and though he had his moments from time to time, he was far, far from strung-out. And a hell of a lot more masculine than the paradigm to which you are equating him. So don't be trashing or I'll have to hurt you.
Oh, and I have seven tattoos and don't regret a single one of them.
Patricia, I pass you a lot on 14th Street and I always want to say hi. IDK, I feel like I sort of know you because I've read your comments for so long! And you're very cool and pretty. So, hi. :)
* I promise I'm not a stalker or a creepy dude. I'm just a lady who appreciates another lady who loves black clothes!
** Also Marc Jacobs is a ridiculous rich kid, so he went to Squeezebox, who cares?
