A sidewalk message outside the Stage on 2nd Avenue

Seen outside 128 Second Ave. this afternoon … a new message that reads: "Push back predatory landlords! Icon we see you!"

The 35-year-old diner has been closed since March 30 here between East Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place during an ongoing legal tussle with landlord Icon Reality.

Thanks to EVG contributor Steven for the photo.

What a shame ICON has put so many hard working people out of a job.

That chalk looks pretty fresh, like the message was written only seconds before the picture was taken.

Uh..OK ANON 8:28... nice observation that the chalk isn't washed away - what was your point?

Judge Bannon very recently signed an order which prevents the landlord from terminating Stage's lease. The judge noted that the plumber that Stage hired did not find any siphoning of gas, and Stage was not fined for siphoning. I don't know if this means that they can reopen soon...

Sorry to see one of the great neighborhood places still shut down. At least we got Big Lee's Place open to wash down our sorrows.

Icon bought out building. Believe everything you read about them, absolutely horrible landlords. It has been surreal watching them in action.

If Stage opens, I hope they improve their menu.
