Yesterday, an EVG reader noted the arrival of three statues of the Virgin Mary in the previously empty spaces outside Most Holy Redeemer-Nativity Church on East Third Street between Avenue A and Avenue B.
EVG reader David sent these shots today...
Per David: "All three are the same — very worn-down-looking statues of Mary, but each has a very different surface. Is that supposed to look like marble? Quite surreal! I kind of like them..."

It is the Miraculous Oreo Virgin!
Things are so bad that the Virgin Mary is having a melt down!
Full of grace! Full of grace!
It's for a heavenly-themed bar opening soon. Their specialty drink? the Blacky Mary -- black vodka, Guinness, Jaeger, Kahlua, spices, black pepper, Worcestire... G-d help us all.
Probably transferred from churches they've closed down.
ahhhh no, this can be stopped from degrading. I'm an objects conservator in the neighborhood, somebody tell me who to contact before they melt away!
You think the church selling off some parish churches would spend some of the booty on restoration and maintenance of the one's it is keeping they not simply buildings but architectural gems that should not fall in disrepair.
