Oh please! Where is that sign again? I want to send my pooch over there to pee. Get over yourselves: THIS IS NYC. There is pee literally everywhere. Besides, it's just sterile filtered water. Go back inside your bubble of perfection.
As a dog owner I do believe we need to be more mindful of where our poochies do their business. However the first thing that popped into my head was those old 970 TV ads form the 90's. 970-PEEE. The extra "e" is for extra pee.
Better on the sidewalk than a tree pit. Too many dog owners let their dogs urinate in tree pits or lift them over the fences to urinate. Why? Do they think it's more natural? THEY'RE KILLING TREES.
@IzF. Oh my God, Robin Byrd should have made a million dollars running those "The extra E is for extra pee" ads on Channel J, and then later on channel 35. Would anyone like to share how it was possble for someone to actually give you a golden shower over the phone? And why anyone would pay 99 cents a minute to hear a recording of water gurgling on their phone? Those ads were hilarious.
In NYC it was expected/assumed that folks would curb their dogs - i.e. dogs would poop and pee at the curb.
Since about 2010 there seems to be an increase in folks who let their dogs pee on buildings (not their buildings of course) , storefronts, on plastic trash bags that sanitation workers have to pick up. Recently have noticed folks letting dogs pee on churches and synagogues on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side.
Lots more entitled people living in NYC these days....
I'll be that all dog owners know the rules, from a sense of entitlement they choose to ignore them. When I mentioned to a woman that she shouldn't be bringing her dog into a supermarket she flashed her "If looks could kill face," and responded that it was a working dog. No she wasn't blind, I imagine that she had papers from her shrink that she needed a companion dog. What self-indulgent none sense that you can't be twenty minutes without your companion. Most dog owners pick up their dog's droppings, but the urination is a real problem.

Wheneve the "pick-up the poop" law was enacted it replaced the "curb your dog" law and made no mention of "curb your dog" so people decided they didn't have to.
i wlll never understand why the two concepts could not have been combined.
My dog knows to go at the curb! Once in a while he doesn't because, well, he's an animal and not perfect. I can't believe the scumbags that don't pick up the poop, that's mad weird, like, you live here too, you might step in it too. Idiots. Most people clean up too. And a lot of us if we see someone had left it I'll grab that too along with my dogs. Lemme tell you somethin, the real god damn animals out there are the filthy scum that throw their cups, cigarette cartons, and other trash ON TOP of garbage bags by the curb. Do they not realize it just falls off when the garbage men grab the trash? I'm sick of the god damn filth!!!!
"Get over yourselves: THIS IS NYC." this line is used to justify any selfish behavior and I am so tired of it. Dog should be curbed not only should the poop be picked up and by the way your dog's poop bag then needs to be put in a garbage can there is one on just about every corner, besides you are "walking" you dog so too bad if it is 20 feet out of your way. I get really get mad when people allow their dogs to pee on my metal basement doors, I use they each day and rather not handle sticking dog piss doors. I give people hell when they don't pickup after their dogs but have thanked the few people that actually use the curb. Rant almost over... The tree pit is another bit of drama, people have insisted that their dog can not pee anywhere other than on whatever plants are trying to grow in a tree pit, the worst example was a woman told me that the tulips her dog was peeing on grew wild in NYC.????
Thanks 2:17, for the tip. I looked it up and you're right, but I still think these people are overreacting, frankly. I am a responsible dog owner, in that I pick up the poop and try to veer her away from peeing on private property, but animals go where they go sometimes. It's occasionally unavoidable. The worst offenders are those who bag the crap and leave it on the street. What is that about?
BTW, the pee sterility myth was only truly debunked on a grand scale as late as 2013 or something. I took biology a million years ago. I regret the error.
@1:25 is likely accurate - probably more people know the conventions or rules but choose to ignore them.
Have noticed people (typical demographic women 20-30 somethings) now regularly bring dogs into clothing stores, even dressing rooms. Seems like that would be a problem for people with allergies?
As for the upswing in people with fake "emotional support" dogs,..... in a restaurant recently observed two women eating, one who had a small dog which she removed from a bag and then put on the empty seat next to her. Wow.
Someone complained but restaurant staff seemed to scared to do anything Question- if you are eating out with a human companion, why do you still "need" to bring your "emotional" dog with you?
A local bartender told me that some months ago after he told a person who came in with a dog that dogs were not allowed. The man became angry and started screaming about how his dog was allowed. The dog owner didn't show any papers. The bartender and the owner were cited by some city agency and had to go "downtown" to take a sensitivity course. I am not sure if there was a fine involved. It seems confusing. We don't allow dogs into food stores for a variety of health reasons (A to Z), yet if the owner has a paper "companion dog" those A to Z reasons disappear. WHY? OH WHYO? are there these strange regulations?

How do they know it's from a dog ?
Still, better a dog than from a drunk.

I'm glad I live in Stuytown where there's plenty of dirt for my best friend to urinate on.

That's definitely human piss.

Dogs brought into dressing rooms?
Imagine a dog running out of one into another occupied one. LOL
