Watts up with the bright lights inside Key Food?

If you still have a pair of solar eclipse glasses, then you may want to bring them along the next time that you shop at Key Food on Avenue A... the grocery's new lights, as I discovered this morning, provide the ambiance of an interrogation room...

... perhaps this is an attempt to get people in and out of the store more quickly...

Anyway!

This is just the latest new development here ... joining the new Key logo that arrived in late July...

Key is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year...

They probably don't want people falling asleep there; I for one welcome the bright lights because it will make it easier to read the fine print of ingredients labels.

Key Food needs to improve on their customer service skills. Putting in new lights and a new sign won't change anything if the customer service is awful! What's up with the service at the Deli Counter when you have a number of customers waiting to place their order and only 1 employee out of a few behind the deli counter is working?

"...provide the ambiance of an interrogation room" ...ranks up there in the book of top EV Grieve one-liners👍

Hopefully it will motivate their laid back employees, especially in the deli dept.

There is already a Key Food sign outside, the new sign is pointless and it looks like the Brooklyn Nets logo, and that team and the gentrified parts of the borough suck.

It's a supermarket AND a tanning salon!

Not only will they interrogate you for free, but if you're nice to the manager they will waterboard you in aisle 9.

Been shopping here for 18 years. It's come a long way from how it used to be.

Those light sensitive could first head over to the newly opened salt mine spa or any Whole Foods for their shopping needs.
I think the new logo signifies that "East Village" has now reached the branding ranks of "Williamsburg" but has much further to go to reach internationally recognized brand "Brooklyn". yo.

I lug groceries from Key Foods to 3rd Ave because it's the only affordable option. If these new lights are energy efficient and saving them money, I'm all for them. Attractive? No. Keeping food within reasonable limits? Yes.

Those new lights are because meetings.

Fall asleep where? On the bread in the bread aisle?

Everything uses that stupid black and white "artisans" hipster style logo all of a sudden.

I asked about the lights & was told they were moved from above the shelves to mid-aisle to improve the usefulness of the security cameras. As someone who genuinely appreciates the positive impact of this store on my day-to-day life (i.e. food!), if it keeps the store in business, I can tolerate the awful lighting. I'll dawdle less. There must be some light bulb that's just as bright and less interrogation room-like. It really does change the vibe.
