188 2nd Ave. is for rent
Closing the loop on the Lumos Kitchen saga. The restaurant space at 188 Second Ave. at 12th Street is now for rent.
There isn't much info on the listing (rent is available upon request; term is 10 years).
The restaurant enjoyed a three-month-plus run here serving French- and Chinese-influenced cuisine before a late-July closure for something related to a gas meter. Lumos never reopened. (See the previous post here for more.)
As previously noted, Lumos marks the fourth restaurant — joining Hot Pot Central, DumplingGuo and Dumpling Go — to close here since March 2015.
Shima had a good go of it here until January 2014...

Post-Shima, the asking rent was in the $25k ballpark.

IMO, that's one of those jinxed & overpriced locations where I think NOTHING is going to make a go of it.
Imagine how much the owners of Lumos sank into that place, and now have lost it all.
I still miss Shima. That's where kiddo learned to use chopsticks and where I could count on nice food in a peaceful atmosphere and could have a conversation with whoever I came to eat with.
Not that this intersection needs another vacant space (I live across the street from it) but Lumos was totally off the mark for that corner. First all they would ask if you have a reservation even though the restaurant would be completely empty. Maybe it’s some opentable points thing but it just seemed tacky. Second they didn’t have any drinks and being that it’s reputation has something to do with a bar you think that would be high priority. It was expensive and only so-so. It also took a minimal seating approach which IMO was only adding fuel to the fire. The problem here I think is the floor to ceiling windows that wrap around the entire space. No one wants to be eating on display in a fishtank on second Ave. especially when there is only four tables in the whole restaurant.
