Metropolis Vintage is on the move to a larger space nearby on Broadway

Some positive retail news to start 2019 with. After 23 years at 43 Third Avenue between Ninth Street and 10th Street, Metropolis Vintage is moving this April to a larger space at 803 Broadway near 11th Street.

Richard Colligan first opened the store in 1990 at 96 Avenue B between Sixth Street and Seventh Street...

Hey, that's great! And that's a really nice location for retail, close to Strand, Forbidden Planet, Flight Club, etc. I hope this means they'll start selling boots again.

So did NYU also force them out like they did the other tenants on this strip? I think the only left now is the cleaners on the corner. All the other spaces have sat empty the last few years. I wouldn't be surprised if one big retailer takes over the space once the last tenant is gone.

Tells you how much money NYU has to waste, that they could allow so many storefronts to sit vacant for years on end.

If NYU forced them out it's a classic case of "blessing in disguise." Broadway and 11th Street is a MUCH BETTER location for the store and it's cool that the store gets bigger with every move (forced or not.) If anything it's most likely that Metropolis forced itself out i.e. said "we need a bigger boat" (space) and moved out on their own volition (if not again, a BID.)

I would LOVE to see Canal Jean Co. return to Broadway below 14th Street, ideally SoHo.

I had to do a search to find that they still existed!

I too would love to see them back in Manhattan—ideally on Canal Street.
