Green days: How to become a member of the 6BC Botanical Garden
The 6BC Botanical Garden is hosting a series of membership orientations over the next few weekends, starting tomorrow (Sunday). The above flyer has the details. The sessions start at 11:30 a.m. in the community garden on Sixth Street between Avenue B and Avenue C.
You can find more details about becoming a garden member at this link.
Also, starting on Monday, you can check out "Whispers in the Grove," an interactive, multimedia sculpture on view through June 7...
I'd love to grow some tomatoes and other produce so I've gone to every community garden and asked how to get a garden plot. Not a single one would outline a concrete process by which I could use a small patch. They loved telling me how I could volunteer or donate but that was all that was available.
Not so many gardens have individual plots. And Often there are waiting lists for current members who want one, who understandably get priority. All NYC Parks Dept community gardens are open to membership, always. But Plot availability depends on the individual garden. 1st step would be to find a garden you like, become a member, get on the plot waiting list, and make sure you're a member in good standing so When a plot comes up you'll Be eligible. Go to Greenthumb https://greenthumb.nycgovparks.org Or LUNGS http://www.lungsnyc.org To learn about all the gardens.

6B has individual plots, but there's a long list of people competing for them. Welcome to the city.
