At the opening day of Book Club on 3rd Street

Book Club opened its doors Saturday morning at 197 E. Third St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

EVG contributor Stacie Joy stopped by Saturday for an opening-day look at the bookstore-cafe owned and operated by East Village couple Erin Neary and Nat Esten...

The space features an area for sitting and reading ... and a cafe serving MUD coffee. (They were approved for a beer-wine license, which is expected to be issued next month.) Look for community events and readings in the weeks/months ahead.

Book Club is currently open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Find more updates via their Instagram account.

Excellent selection of fiction. I bought two books from them on Saturday, and will make a stop here part of my weekend routines.

Looks great.
Will definitely visit and purchase - we've terminated Amazon in our family.

Question about the cafe and sitting and reading though....
First, hopefully people will actually buy - not just read and not buy...
Second, it is my understanding that when books get "soiled" at bookstores and are no longer in good/sellable condition, that bookstores can just send back to the publishers as "soiled" - and the publisher has to eat the cost.
Is this true?

It is depressing to see parents let little kids mess up books. And adults too :(

Hello Anon 4:02. Book store pro here. Stores can return books to publishers, but the books must be in resaleable condition. Please keep this in mind if you are a serial in-store reader of books.

I haven't gotten a chance to walk by to take a look, but a friend who uses a motorized chair wondered if the store is accessible. Is it?
