Trailer Park Santa Stand bucks tradition on 14th Street with mini camper
The Christmas tree vendor is setting up as usual on the northwest corner of 14th Street at First Avenue.
EVG regular Pinch notes something new this year — a mini camper. This takes the place of the Cousin Eddie-style camper that had been parked on 14th Street in recent years, though not last year because of, we heard, the new SBS lane.
No word yet on what inflatables to expect this year. A Santa? A reindeer? A bear? A reindeer with a bear and Santa?

How is it that these same people (including 2nd Ave between 16th and 17th streets( get to take over half a block and leave a narrow sidewalk for everyone else? Who is getting paid off for this to happen every year?
Looks like a pretty fun career. Grow trees for most of the year, then spend about a month living in a camper parked in NYC.
There's always a Scrooge. Anyway, how about sharks with freakin laser beams on their heads for the trailer top?
Scrooge? Because no one can walk on a narrow path on a PEDESTRIAN sidewalk while someone makes $$$$ off it rent-free?
A "narrow sidewalk"? I've never had a problem traversing the streets, given that the trees are crammed against the curb, not sprawled on the concrete like Santacon revelers. And I hope you are similarly outraged by things like the construction project at the old PC Richards site, where the developers, after assuring the city they would not need to restrict sidewalk access to pedestrians, changed their tune when they got the permits to build, and started yawping about they simply COULDN'T build without getting to take over not only the entire sidewalk, but an entire traffic lane as well, since the pedestrians had to go SOMEWHERE?!?
