Grubby ol' St. Nick inflatable makes triumphant return to 14th Street after 2 (long) years
[Lame perky inflatables photo from December 2014]
After two years of lame perky inflatables at the tree stand on 14th Street at First Avenue ... a familiar figure has returned atop the RV...
Why yes, it is grubby ol' St. Nick! (Trailer Park Santa Claus to a few) ... and it looks like the genuine original (unlike the fake cube that returned to Astor Place)...
Compare this to a photo from several years ago ... (image slightly faded as it's been in a frame on my desk)...
Meanwhile, in other less-triumphant returns, the one-seat bubble room is back outside Whole Foods Market® Bowery ... providing shelter to the brave men and women (one at a time) who sell the holiday trees here...

Have to hand it to these brave fur tree salespersons, there have been so bitter cold Decembers here.
I would love to know how and why these Tree-Vendors are allowed to block the sidewalks (some on 2nd avenue and 20th street take the whole block long) without any renumeration to the city. Some of them even leave their trees and dirt behind when the season closes. Who took a payoff for this?
Grubby Santa swatting away the flying pizza slices?
The headline reads: Mayor Bill's New Housing Plan Finally Makes it's Debut. Maison Plastique is a modular design solution for a city where you really can't afford to live. Currently located on city land on 14th Street it was designed with portability in mind. Remember: It's a mobile home for a mobile life style. Maison Plastique comes in 2 models - clear and frosted. Chair is optional.
When I saw that there were four comments to this story, I wondered what people could have to say in complaint about this. Now I know.
I saw that grubby old Santa this morning, and he gladdened my heart!
At anon 1:16pm...HA! virtually the same exact thought!
What's now to complain? Streets and corners blocked by people making money (and paying no fees and taxes) and then leaving their dirt and debris.
Got a very nice $35 (5 foot, around 8 inches) tree from these guys, perfect size for our apartment. With those small potted small trees going for around $28 at the delis, a much better deal and looks a lots better.
Is that LinkNYC?
I hear you, 3:57 and 1:16 ... but 12:06's "Maison Plastique" is pretty good.
If you zoom in you can see the piece of scotch tape on his toe.
