Back in April, the Verizon Wireless outlet on Second Avenue at St. Mark's Place closed after nearly three years here.
After several months on the rental market... the for lease sign came down and renovations commenced ... and yesterday, signs went up in the window showing the new tenant — Verizon Wireless...
Hopefully there will not be a similar return around the corner at the former 7/11 space. Then again, if Jas Mart were to return I'd be thrilled.
The guy who ran that Verizon franchise was really nice and extremely helpful, so much better than many of these "bait and switch" electronic salesmen. Too bad he couldn't keep up with the rent.
Yet the D.F. Mavens ice cream-free ice cream store on the corner is still empty a year later, closing after a blizzard just a year after their grand opening in the middle of a blizzard two years ago. I doubt they will be returning to that overpriced piece of retail hell any time soon. That space could be vacant for eons.
Make way for the Gap.
I stopped by there for a few minutes on late Saturday afternoon to watch them wire up a four outlet that was going into the floor.
